The Traditional Model
A separate attorney represents each spouse, with each attorney advocating for their client. Fees are often based on the time spent on the case. For some couples, this approach is appropriate or necessary. For others, it can add undue cost, conflict, and delay.
The Pillar Model
One neutral attorney works jointly with both spouses, helping them understand the decisions before them, reach agreement, and complete the legal process. The attorney does not represent either spouse, and fees for services are set in advance.

Pillar is the solo practice of attorney and mediator Doan Dang, who previously led the Family Mediation Program at Groundswell, a nonprofit conflict resolution organization working in partnership with the Orange County Superior Court. During his years there, he guided hundreds of spouses through divorce and helped train dozens of mediators.
